Ways to Enhance Your Smartphone's Security

  • Install any app from the Trusted sources.

Installing your apps from trusted sources like google's play store and your phone's store like "my galaxy", reduce the chances of data breach by 50%, as all the apps are forced to run under google's privacy policy and to follow the rules made by google but if you are downloading anything from web, it never comes with any privacy policy.

  • Never install any type of modded apps.

All the modded apps look like their genuine versions, but the main matter of concern is that why should anyone make a modded app? For charity? Hell no! They install some bugs by the medium of that app on your smartphone and sell your data on darkweb for thousands of rupees. Yes! your data worth thousands for many advertising companies which you are giving it for free by using a modded apk.

  • Never install any antivirus or cleaning apps.
Your smartphone has a linux based operating system which means it is less prone to viruses, It basically can have malwares which I am shure no antivirus can clear off. Security applications have all sort of permissions enabled which are misused by them and your smartphone is more safe without them, and talking about all the junk cleaner apps, they itself slower your smartphone by various ways. if you have to clear your cache memory you can clear it by manually clearing cache in settings>apps>desired app which you want to clear the cache>clear chache.

  • Use a Trustworthy Keyboard.
This part is missed by most of the people, they use any keyboard that comes out of the box. But in my opinion you should use only google keyboard or samsung keyboard. If you use some other keyboard then there are some propbablitiy that the keyboard tracks your data whatever you type including your passwords and OTP. So keep in mind a proper keyboard is necessary.

  • Permissions.
You may have ignored the permissions required by the apps and allowing it with all your closed eyes. But they are not worth ignoring. You should keep a very sharp eye on the apps permissions. Why should an app would need any unnecessary permissions. Like why should a flashlight application needs permissions to access microphone and camera. You can manually check permissions you have granted to the apps in settings, Search permissions in search box in settings and do the needful.

  • SMS Permission.
If you do online banking, shopings etc, Then you should must check which apps can see your sms, In my opinion only default sms app should be given permissions to read messages(SMS), For ex, Truecaller ask for permissions to read sms but you should deny it as if any OTP comes, then truecaller may use it against you, and now-a-days sharing OTP means sharing your assets with any stranger. You should must remove all the sms permission in settings menu as stated earlier.

  • Check For the Data Usage.
Manually check for the background data usage, if any app is using any unexpectedly high data resource then quickly turn off its cellular connections or background data activity.

  • Turn off Cellular Connections For The suspected apps.
If you doubt any app that it is sending your data anywhere on web, then you should manually turn off its data connections. Tap and hold the app>app info>restrict data usage>uncheck all the fields.

  • Never Connect to Public wifi.
Everyone wants free wifi but not at the risk of their privacy. You should never connect to any public wifi like railwire or any park wifi or coffee shop wifi or anything like that. If any one on the same wifi have the knowledge of ethical hacking can acces to your phone very easily. So never connect to them.

These are some of the ways by which you can be safe 90% on internet, as 100% security is never guaranteed. Thankyou.
